Thanks for writing and good luck with your career. Can you help me find a series that was on in the mid to late 70s. It was a variety show and Vincent Price had a small part and narrated it. It was a horror variety show with witches and had witches by a cauldrin. I cant remember much more about it. It might have been called the mysterious house of Frankenstein. Does this show ring a bell? If so how can I find out more about it? Thanks, Dan It was actually a short-lived 1971 Canadian TV series called THE HILARIOUS HOUSE OF FRIGHTENSTEIN. Comedian Billy Van (later a Sonny & Cher Comedy Hour regular) played the lead and a bunch of other characters. Hello, I read elsewhere on the web that the DVD release of "The Giant Gila Monster" (coupled with The Killer Shrews) is a waste of time. Many sites delight in slamming "The Giant Gila Monster," but it has always been one of my favorites. I love those roadsters and the eerie theme as well. Is the DVD a dud or not? Also, thanks for doing an even-handed assessment of Don Sullivan and "the gang." Too many reviewers just won't take the time to really look at B-Movies that look and sound like B-Movies. By the way, if an afficiondo like me wanted to find out "whatever happened to" individual cast members, where would I start? I heard Don Sullivan dropped out of acting and was or is selling his own line of beauty products!.Thanks. Craig Dear Craig,Just as in the Gold Rush days of videotape, a lot of "public domain" (or at least grey area) titles are coming out from multiple labels. It's difficult keeping track of them all, and a lot of them are poor quality. A lot are also acceptable quality for less than the price of a videotape. The K-Tel version of GIANT GILA MONSTER (always a fave of mine, too) falls into this category. If K-Tel isn't necessarily getting the pristine transfers done that, say, Criterion is getting, they at least get a decent transfers from pretty good prints.Plus, they're selling them at less than $10 - some titles as double features - and are putting cartoons and serial chapters on as extras.Often, the higher priced edition is worth the money - Image's HORROR EXPRESS is much much better than other editions, and they're asking for more money for it.Madacy is releasing a lot of old drive-in titles as double features on DVD, reminding me of the Sinister Cinema double features. I'm trying to get them to send some so I can review them, too.Best bet for research on anything movie related is to start at the Internet Movie Database - www.imdb.com - and work from there, though they don't have much on Sullivan.
excuse me but Betty Page does not endorse the book by Richard, and has stated that much of what Richard wrote is not true or embellished, any self respecting BP fan would have nothing to do with that book and it would be nice of you to remove any refernces to that book from your pages. rine@home.com The review of Richard Fosters' book THE REAL BETTIE PAGE appeared originally on our website two months before the book was released. We were not the only ones who reviewed it extensively, THE BETTIE SCOUTS, the official zine of Bettie Page fans did too. I also spoke on more than one occasion with the company that licences her and sent the review to them before it went up on the website. And then I spoke to a representative there after they read my review. I was not asked to change one word by them. I think any book that relies on anecdotes runs into trouble, but Mr. Foster did research that put the Swanson book to shame, and much of the evidence is from the public record, but I guess it didn't meet Mr. Swansons' image of her as a glamour queen. Is it ' the real Bettie Page?'. No, but as we now know, neither was Swanson's. And that was Bettie's true power. Her myth. If you take the word "myth" and split it like so: "my/th" you get "my" and "th", or "the". "The" is infinite, so the word means "my infinite (self, in the case of a person)". Some who first see Bettie in photos from Florida are shocked when they see the Klaw material because the dream has already taken hold. What was it like, as a stripper in New York (which from watching TEASERAMA she clearly was) in the 1950's is often not asked by a fandom that would prefer to think of her as an actress trying to make it in the big city. There are as many different real Bettie's as there are fans. I do not believe that Mr. Foster did anything in that book with malicious intent. I think it is naive to think that if movies were being made of her life, which they appear to be, the tabloids wouldn't have dug this up. It is in the public record for heaven's sake. I also do not believe that mental illness is the stigma on someone that it was in Bettie's day. Nor is scandle for that matter. Regards, Michael Flores Dear Chicago Psychotronic Film
Society, Please excuse this obvious invitation to sardonic scorn, but could you tell me exactly what "psychotronic" means and where the word comes from. Love your page, J.Barnes Does Michael Weldon know you are using this term?
Although I did enjoy your site very much, I'd like to see more schlocky, Z-grade features reviewed/mentioned. To me, major Hollywood releases are not what come to my mind when I hear the term "Psychotronic". - Mike Altho in my opinion psychotronic has little to do with budget and more to do with attitude, I agree that more lo-budget productions have that attitude. Unfortunately, few "schlocky, Z-grade features" are released to theaters (or even drive-ins) anymore. I've been expanding our coverage with more "Video Premiere" feature reviews, as well as reviews of psychotronic classics released on DVD. I'm also working with some other writers on some new articles for the IOAM! section, trying to get some new voices in there. Kik ass review [of SAVING PRIVATE RYAN]. Did you review "Wag the Dog". If so I'd love to read THAT one. -Mark Thanx for the kompliment. Wasn't able to review it, but I'm beginning to think that WTD is part of an elaborate disinformation scheme. It is curious how our elected officials time their military strikes to coincide with scandals in their personal lives. Could it be that these scandals are secretly manufactured diversions to distract and confuse our enemies? I'm trying to find the title of a movie I saw sometime between '67 and '71. All I remember is a group of scientists? on the ocean floor going to check out a UFO that landed next to them. Inside the UFO a triangular door opens and pushes out an ice cube (prism shaped) with a big hot dog in it. They take it back to their sub and after the ice melts a monster grows from the hot dog. If you know the movie could you e-mail me the title, cast, and whether or not it's available on video. Thanks, Rich Probably caused a drop-off in hot dog sales at drive-in snack bars. I haven't seen it in a loooooong time, but this sounds an awful lot like DESTINATION INNER SPACE (aka: Terror of the Deep, 1966) with Scott Brady and Sheree North. Not available on video, but you can get a cool model kit of the monster from Dimensional Designs Well Hell...0 there ! Please allow me to introduce myself... Half clad...all bad... Please let us know when you get a show in Chicago. Maybe we can do a screening of THE AMAZING TRANSPLANT or SHE-MALE in your honor. i am looking for the title of a
movie i saw when i was growing up, having problems finding info on it. Thanks Dear Dawn,
