What was old is new again
While the Movie Madness section was created to cover new psychotronic
films opening in theaters, in response to many requests we later expanded
our coverage to include straight to video releases under the Video Premieres
banner. Now, with the growing popularity of the DVD format, we find that
many older psychotronic classics are being re-released on disc, many with a
cartload of extra features.
A lot of these movies have been known up until now only
through smeary videotapes or dim memories of scratchy grindhouse prints. But
a lot of psychotronic classics are being made available on DVD looking
better than they've ever looked before, and with whatever enhancements DVD
can give them. I used to bore my friends by gushing about how seeing films
on laserdisc was often like seeing them for the first time. Now that
experience has been made much more affordable and better than ever.
And so, we expand once again, to include DVD releases of
psychotronic films made before the dawn of video (and a few more recent
flicks that slipped through our fingers the first time around).
