Review by Mike Flores
The question no critic will ask, but every Psychotronic movie fan will want to know, is the new TRANSFORMERS film as good as the TV show or previous animated film?
Well, it isn't better than those blasts from the past, but it is just as good. This may not be the criteria critics use, but this slam bam of a movie has enough razzle dazzle to make you wish you were seeing it at a drive-in. Plot? Warring sets of megabots — the good Autobots and evil Decepticons — descend from outer space in search of the AllSpark. They disguise themselves as cars.
Ok now that's out of the way, this excuse leads to some spectacular battle scenes between the megabots. Shia LaBeouf plays Sam, a student trying to impress a girl Mikaela (Megan Fox), with his broken down Camaro. Offering her a ride
transforms them both as the love interest to keep girls interested, and of course his Camaro picks this moment to transform.
Floating in and out of the mayhem are real stars. How they got in this movie I can only guess, but it is great to watch them chew the
scenery - Jon Voight is a military higher-up, John Turturro is an egotistical secret government agent, Josh Duhamel and Tyrese Gibson are soldiers, and funnyman Anthony Anderson is a hacker. The acting is over the top, but hey these guys are playing in a film about giant warring robots. This acting style that Michael Bay must have imposed as they are all doing it, makes the films lack of a plot much easier to go with. The actors are having a fun time and the effect is contagious. Anyone who saw the series as a kid will be smiling throughout.
TRANSFORMERS appeals to the kid in all of us that likes to watch things blow up real good. In this case, smashed and trashed is fine.
I would suggest if you live in the Chicago - Wisconsin area you see this film at the drive-in.

It's playing there now with The Simpsons Movie, so my guess is it will be extended.
