Results:
Film of the Year for 1999!
Members burned up the datastream voting for their favorites, and finally here are the RESULTS.
The rules were simple: vote Chicago Style (early and often) for as many choices as you want. Write-ins were encouraged, although only domestic US psychotronic releases of 1999 are included (write-ins not meeting these criteria were not counted).
So let's get to the big category right away: ! Competition was fierce, as it was in all categories. Here's a simple Tor Chart to illustrate how the voting turned out
:
Wha-? Well as usual with Tor, that explains
nothing. Might as well just go ahead and announce the Psychotronic Film of the
Year 1999, as chosen by members of the Psychotronic Film Society:
THE MATRIX!!!
Okay not a HUGE surprise there - THE MATRIX won by a big lead, but the runner-up races were tight all over. Here's the top ten and the percentage of the total vote they garnered:
| THE MATRIX | 8.01% |
| BEING JOHN MALKOVICH | 5.65% |
| THE SIXTH SENSE | 5.65% |
| THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT | 5.46% |
| SOUTH PARK: BL&U | 4.92% |
| FIGHT CLUB | 4.55% |
| IRON GIANT | 4.19% |
| SLEEPY HOLLOW | 4.01% |
| eXistenZ | 3.46% |
| AUSTIN POWERS: TSWSM | 3.28% |
That's right, unlike those over-rated Academy Awards (which we will no doubt soon replace), we give an accounting of the voting!
Direct -To-Video Honorable Mention
Award was a write-in only award, since it would be difficult to identify all the
DTV films released last year. Overall vote getter was David "The Rock" Nelson's DEVIL ANT with a full 20% of the
write-ins!
Everything else got 10% each.
The Award for Psychotronic Director of 1999: The Wachowski brothers swept up 20.54% of the vote for THE MATRIX. The rest of the candidates line up like so:

Enough of the quality - which movies totally sucked? Our members felt that the WORST P-film of the Year was: WILD WILD WEST, getting 6.11% of the votes. Congratulations!
At the bottom of the heap of other losers were:
| INSPECTOR GADGET | 4.21% |
| THE PHANTOM MENACE | 4.21% |
| THE HAUNTING | 3,79% |
| POKEMON | 3.37% |

| BATS | 2.32% |
BICENTENNIAL MAN |
2.32% |
Note how AUSTIN POWERS 2 and BLAIR WITCH PROJECT came in at about the same level on both charts! These totals prove two things: our members love movies more than they hate them, and there's no accounting for taste.
Congratulations to the winners! You will be mailed a gorgeous and valuable certificate, suitable for framing, that looks a lot like this:
To the losers, a word of advice for next year: remember that bribing the judges IS allowed.
